Even if Canada wanted to and it were possible, it would take years (decades?) to re-orient trade towards Europe. But I think this could be an inflection point for Canada to diversify who it trades with.
Brief reminder that Canada is not exactly the best trade partner and is currently in violation of CPTPP obligations in the agricultural sector with other member countries.
I just like the idea of putting the US in the position where we can no longer meet all their resource needs because we have expanded to other markets. Let them worry about cost logistics for once.
yep, and as much as china also sucks, they really should be working that avenue more. As tough as trump talks he isnt going to provoke them in any real way
The Chian one I'd slow play because it's way easier for the US (not just trump) to frame that as hostile action against them and they respond with violence. The EU is your state's ally. Go ahead and publically declare they are you enemy.
Why not? I think it is a great idea. Lots of places outside continental Europe are EU territory. Also Canada shares land border with Denmark, after the whisky war ended in 2023.🤭
technically we are, though the Consitution Act of 1982 is more geared to the idea of Canada managing Canadian affairs rather than sovereignty under the wider British umbrella of Commonwealth. I don't think joining the EU would be disrespectful per se for that reason
Sadly I think Ukraine tried to get in EU and they were all like Not touching that. Granted they might be more willing because trump just pissed them all off.
They tried to be a member of NATO which is important because if they got it it would mean that if Russia attacked them then all other NATO members respond in full force. EU is just free trade and softer borders for members. Also Canada already in NATO.
