I played it at release, I put like 6 hours in and it was dreadful. I had the bonus of continuously getting invaded to further ruin it.

It's got all the worst parts of PS3-era game design - cover shooting, excessive QTEs, obnoxiously large interaction icons, multiplayer mechanics even when you're playing single player - and obviously it's not at all like previous Resi games, taking 4 and 5's action focus and turning it to 69, but...

...on top of that, it's not even a good dumb shooter! Because they built it around multiplayer first, the game's more than happy to stunlock you constantly, with the expectation that your partner will help you out. Even if the AI worked, this would be tedious - but it doesn't.

I can see why they felt the need to reboot the franchise after this, and I'm glad they did (even if I still disagree with the shift to first-person).

My expectations for this game were low, but holy shit, it's worse than I ever imagined.

I don't think I have the will to play enough to get to that point tbh. I checked howlongtobeat and it says 21 hours (and tbh I'm usually slower than HLTB) and I just...don't want to dedicate that much of my life to this game

It's also the only mainline game I haven't played, the vibes were off from day 1.
