A good litmus tear for how informed you are about trans athletes is whether or not you previously knew that no sports governing body has ever produced a study of actual trans bodies to justify banning trans women from sports.

iirc the logic of that (and also like, gender-divided chess) is that they tend to be extremely male dominated so a women's division is made to carve out a space for meaningful participation

I mean the reason why Chess has to have a women's division is that male players are so viciously sexist (men will extend a game an average of 20 moves past forfit if competing against a woman, meaning female players get no rest in chess tournaments, because every match goes to clock.)

Chess does not have a men's division: they're open and women's. They used to be men's and women's, but the Polgar sisters in the 1980s managed to batter the door down and the rules were eventually changed. Sofia Polgar's "Sack of Rome" was the best tournament performance ever at the time in 1989.

Judit Polgar eventually reached number 7 in the world, and beat every top player in at least one game (there's an arguable exception for Kasparov, but *he* acknowledges the loss, so that'll do for me). Even since retirement, she's beaten everyone in unofficial games (including Magnus Carlson).

Yeah, some of the Texas anti-trans bills they introduced a few days ago are beginning to border on segregating cis women from men from most public spaces. It's clear that they're not just rolling back queer civil rights, but also a backdoor to women's rights.

The funniest bit about this is that you aren't! FIDE *tried* to ban trans women and then they discovered they didn't actually have the power to do that, so it depends on which country you are in.

Love to not be allowed to compete in judo at all, in any division. Not allowed in womens division and not allowed to wear a bra in men's competition.

My student has been running into this issue and I managed to get approval for ATJA nationals and a local USA judo tournament in NC but it’s been an uphill battle.

Switching to hosting inter club shia was huge for creating a space, and letting tournaments know we have other options!

Yeah my local tournament is chill with it, but I cant travel to any of the others in the NE. Its just not worth the hassle for most trans judoka, which is exactly the point of the onerous regs.
