That is my read on it as well. And there are also those who "are supportive" and by that they mean they humor us but don't actually accept who we are as a truth about us.
i am not saying this in any way to invalidate the fact that an extremely and uncomfortably large amount of cis people are exactly this cruel, but: please don't let your brain tell you everyone thinks you are gross or a liar if you can help it. not for any reason that defends cis people,
you just deserve to have the peace of assuming everyone believes you are perfect unless they state otherwise. it is in fact those cruel cis people who are the gross weirdos faking their moral outrage.
Sadly true of even many of the ones who call themselves allies. They want to be seen to be taking the progressive stance, but don't think anything happening to us is worth disrupting day to day life over, no matter how much we say it is.
I was hanging around too meny trans people to the point I was using they/them pronounce on cis people automatically.
Was really funny. I keep using they/them on one of my co workers who is not trans and is a TERF, but I swear they give me a strong vibe of being trans it's not funny.
the things I hear coworkers say about "oh those trans people" is uh shocking. Not always hostile, but more of the "oh they're going too far" "don't you think it's kinda weird?" "legally we gotta do [xyz] but..."
and it generally falls into a box of getting humored without being believed :/
