Try searching for people you know/asking mutuals if they do VRC and then you slowly build circles with others you meet in the worlds, kind of like SecondLife. Also.. no public lobbies. Not even once. 🤣😂
I can kinda understand this in VRC. A lot of people and a big chance of some weirdo joining and doing upsetting things but in Resonite? I don’t understand this whatsoever. Like, why… I never ever created a session that was not public, no point in locking it up really.
Sometimes people just are a little cautious around strangers, or worry that their session might get flooded by other people when they just wanted a quieter hangout. Also some people don't want to have to completely censor and sanitize everything for some stranger that may or may not wander in.
Yeah that unfortunately happens sometimes. I'm trying to open up my worlds publicly whenever I'm working on stuff (and have the mental capacity for socializing), but sometimes I just hop around and see what others are doing. But you can always poke people and ask if you can join, that's what I do :)
The two have pretty big differences in the way social stuff works tho. The most public vrc status is "please join me" vs the most public in resonite is "please invite me" which makes hosting social things way harder.
I think it requires a fundamental change to the intent of the sociable status. Intending it to be a request for invitation instead of offer to join was a mistake.
I see it used almost always to camp the top of the contacts list. Often times I reach out to these users and they don't respond.
1. Status expires over time/moving sessions, to prevent set & forget
2. Status requires user to be in an accessible session
Sociable should be a broadcast of socialization, not begging for an invite. It's like blindly pinging everyone to invite you to their house vs. telling them they can come over
I think VRC is able to circumvent this issue through sheer quantity of users. Resonite's daily active player counts are small enough that time of day can decide whether or not you are able to meet people. It's tough for new users to meet people without a friend to invite them to their cliques.
if there were a way to simply tag friends into a personally, casually managed group and then in the session UI say "open to these tags of friends" things would be SO good.
Once you have that, then being able to more specifically say:
friends with these tags can invite people, other's can't... yeah.
I wouldn't say that. Sure there's a large amount of people in private sessions, but it's sort of the same as on other platforms, just that Resonite has much smaller total user counts so it's more apparent. But you can always host your own session and usually someone will come by!

It can serve both. How could we make it more of a "please join me"?

The current version is what comminity shaped it into, which was so it serves as both.
