Joyce, for all the years I've heard you on a myriad of programs, thank you for your keen, steady voice of observation and insights.

Really? For my whole life they've claimed to support states rights but would turn in the blink of an eye to support the federal government overriding a state that did a *wrong* thing.
This is the hypocrisy. Just last year during Biden’s administration MAGA wanted states rights. Now they want to make states to submit to their ideology. Blue states being made to bend the knees to Trump.
Imagine being so much of a snowflake & paranoid imbecile that you want to dismantle DEI in education for children because you’re afraid of your own mediocrity being exposed.
Actually, Rs never did. Rs used that as an argument and fig leaf for things they did not want to see changed. They still use it for things like insurance regulation and exclusion of voting rights. And they have always not used it for things like gun rights.
The American People deserve leadership from their elected officials who are competent, educated, sane. Who honor their oath of office. Not cater to a facist, racist human failure who thinks he knows it all. America, Ukraine, the world doesn’t need this crap.

They still do. Selectively. Right of the state to suppress the vote. To proselytize religion in public schools. To control women’s medical decisions. I could go on, but you know what I mean.
Like fidelity to the constitution and adherence to laws, their belief in states’ rights is only a thing if it helps them achieve their goals and accomplish their agenda.
Me too, and we both know that states’ rights, as they understood it, was the purest sort of segregationist battle cry—a bad thing in every respect.
No going back there.
So…where are we? Federalism? Blue state revolt?
There were only a few of States rights Trumplicans were interested in.
1. The right to own other people
2. The right to force women to give birth
3. The right to force children to work in mines and factories for less than minimum wage
I’m old enough to remember when Republicans used ‘states’ rights’ as a cover for their bigotry and racism, leveraging that same bigotry and racism to secure the white vote—all while convincing themselves it was about the ‘budget’ and the ‘economy.’
The Party of Lincoln/Reagan/Bush its slowly getting away from its true meaning of conservative values and its practices. Any Republican that goes along with the MAGA regime they've giving up their morals for a cult.

I am too. I am also old enough to remember when Republicans wouldn't have extolled a street-level KGB thug like Vladimir Putin as an avatar of freedom and democratic leadership.
Republicans only believe in "state's rights" when the states are doing what they want. As soon as some states strengthened their abortion access laws instead of eliminating them like they wanted them to, Republicans were shouting, "NO, we didn't mean for you to be able to do that."
Rachel Maddow is highlighting all the reversals they’ve done today like women’s health being reinstated and I just wish they would reverse some of these people he put in departments who are completely unqualified, including the AG
Good luck he just arrested 2 Judges and
the attorney general announced today that they will arrest and prosecute any judge that disagrees with Trumps policies (on immigration).

Or we might as well let states get rid of them completely

History like perception is a funny thing.
