The team seems checked out. There are some youngster making most of their playing time, but some of staple players don’t have the same fire from last season. Even Kyle looks checked out times.
Too many superstars with one always out for something so we never get to that point where we’re supposed to be “firing on all cylinders”, CMC not the savior, no cohesion, Brock shouldn’t have to scramble as much as he does, morale seems flat, Jennings rules.
Shannahan is out and Ben Johnson is in. Yes Kyle is unquestionably brilliant, but this team is regressing. It feels like we need everyone healthy, every break just to win against a so-so team. I don't want to revisit the Tomsula days but feels like a change is best for if we miss the post season
The number of avoidable penalties on offense (ie illegal formation) has been excessive this season and Kyle Shanahan should be pressed as to why they continue to occur.
The 49ers are boring this year. The inventiveness of the past is gone. They’ve relied on stars playing like stars for too long and their play has dropped and the coaches have no answer
The 49ers brass is way too deep in the Shanahan pool to try and swim away now.
Everything good or bad hinges on how Kyle adjusts to his own missteps and decisions. Nothing and no one else can intervene here until he is no longer the “head person” in the building.
I'm seeing a lot of knee jerk reactions this morning. People calling for Sorenson to fired or even Shanahan. Bottom line: there are way to many injuries. playmakers just aren't on the field. In the fourth quarter on defense only Fred Warner and demonior Lenoir were the only starters on the field
The 49ers aren't making the same amount of plays and aren't the same dominant team is because the players aren't that team anymore. Age has caught up. Career years of core players are in the past.
The team is still good, but it's a team in a transition stage from the 2019 team to the 2026 team.
Kyle is behind the curve when it comes to play design and play calling. He should hire a true offensive coordinator that can help him innovate his system.
Kyle’s scheme is figured out. Spags laid out the blueprint and everybody else followed suit. His offensive philosophy is all over the league with his AC’s spread throughout the league and studied by DC’s. He needs an OC or he needs to be the OC, no in between. He needs a new set of eyes to help.
The team & scheme is built around dominating in the trenches & currently, the DL and OL are the weakest personnel groups. This is why this team has no identity and cannot adjust.
They’ve got widespread coaching failures…*or* they’re wildly overpaying for a lot of mediocre talent. This can’t be star talent and great coaches…one of the two is false.
Spending all their O-line money on Trent Williams was a mistake. He's a hall of famer, but cashing out the left side means McKivitz/Brendel, who are terrible, have to play. Would have been better had they had replacement level LT at half the money and significantly upgraded the right side.
Textbook Super Bowl hangover - injuries to CMC, Greenlaw to start the season, Aiyuk in middle of season. Off-season chaos with Trent and Aiyuk holdouts, Pearsall incident. New DC bedding in (DeMeco had similar issues first half of 2021). No need to tear it down (bar Special Teams overhaul).
Hi Matt, first time (on BlueSky), long time. Why do you think Kyle has such faith in Brendel and McKivitz when all data points to them being among the leagues worst at their positions?
I think the data points are that Brendel is near the bottom and McKivitz is near the top at their respective positions. But as is the case at every position, they are playing the guys who are the best at those spots. They're not going to put in someone they believe is not as good.
Season isn't overer but it's close. The same mistakes from Special Teams and handing opposition penalty yards is killing us. Deebo is still on holiday but luckily Jennings stepped up. Common denominator though is Shanny using only Purdy/CMC runs far too much, 45% of plays to 1 player is crazy.

Where are runs that look like this: Trent’s side + Kittle blocking + Juice blocking + WR block = dominance asserted.
I missing those this year.
•Kyle needs to consider getting an OC...
•a healthy Mason is more effective than a rusty CMC
