Not strictly true! As the great naturalist Lucy van Pelt explained, wind is made by tree leaves waving. When branches are waving too, it can make hurricane winds.
It’s true. In 1967 a band called The Association tried to trick us into thinking that the wind came from under a stairway: “Who's peekin' out from under a stairway. Callin' a name that's lighter than air? Who's bendin' down to give me a rainbow? Everyone knows it's Windy!”
