So I’ve been seeing twitch audiences typing “monkaS” in chat, which is a verbal reference to a Pepe emote

I don’t know when that started, but it seems to be a work-around for when people ban the frog emotes

Those are also emotes, but external ones from a browser extension, like BetterTTV, FrankerFaceZ or 7TV. Any prefixed with "pepe", "peepo" or "monka" are likely to be pepe variants. It's a BTTV emote - if you don't have the extension, you'll just see the text associated with the emote.

Also emotes are just text to the moderation scheme on Twitch so you can just pre-ban monkaS and any others that you come across and no one will be able to type them in your chat.

Just condemn and ban the hateful people rather than concede the character to them. Otherwise we will have to keep giving things up (the American flag comes to mind).

I honestly had no idea. Some discord servers I am in still use pepe inspired emojis and as someone else said they just don't care.

I've never liked these frog emotes 1. They're ugly and 2 there should be a way to block the emote if the word is part of it I use Firebot so I will have to look when I'm on my laptop next
