Typically, I like to play games at normal difficulty, but if that's getting in the way of enjoying it I am not going to feel bad about going down to easy.

I did that with Doom Eternal. I think ID took it personally when people said Doom 2016 was only "quite challenging".
I can't see myself playing Eternal again unless I can find a mod that nerfs the Marauders. From a quick google search, there seem to be plenty options available.
Doom 2016 is one of the only games I've completed on the hardest difficulty. Eternal I started one difficulty lower, and found it a frustrating slog. For the DLC I dropped it down yet another level, and STILL found it irritating in places.
I definitely think you're right that ID over-"corrected"
I don't know when you last tried it but I believe they actually did Nerf the marauders in a patch. They now have a much clearer tell that they're vulnerable. They can still be a teicky but I found them a LOT easier when I replayed Eternal a few months ago (although maybe I just "got gud" (unlikely))
I had a sort of scales-fall-from-the-eyes moment when I was playing Jedi Fallen Order and I had to whack the difficulty down to "story mode". I COULD have beaten the game on a harder difficulty, I just didn't want to try; I just wanted to be a badass Jedi all the time.
Agreed. Over the last few years I have more than often set games at casual/easy/adventure if I can. I like being challenged but I also want to be able to enjoy and progress in the game.
Commander Sterling did a whole video about why this is valid, you should never feel bad about using things in a game the devs put in the game, because if they didn't want you to use them, they wouldn't have put it in there.

I just want to point a loud stick at a demon and make them go away thanks.
