The most unexpected question I got was what would I do with unlimited money? What research Q would I pursue if $$ and resources were not limited. I also wasn't expecting to get asked which labs were my "competition" and how I differ from them.

Some that I got that I thought were sort of unique were: 1) how is your research distinct from your advisor’s? 2) describe one professional success and one professional failure. 3) describe your research to an undergrad and then also to a grad student

They will most likely ask you standardized questions they will ask to all candidates. What is your 5 year research plan? What is a teaching challenge you faced and how did you over come it? They might give you an opportunity to ask them questions. I asked a non science question to break the ice

Having been on several nsci search committes, I'd say that Elena's Medium post nails it. I'd only add a few things to her list. 1) Re: Who can you see yourself collaborating with in the department? You might want to extend this further to other deptmnts in the univ....

... We've asked abou collaboration in the (psych) dept, in other deptmnts of the university, and at other institutions in the vicinity (nyc). If you haven't considered these questions it could come of as if you're not serious about the application there...

... And also, I'd say that if in the unfortunate case that they don't give you much time to ask them questions (Elena mentioned this in her piece) I wouldn't write them off completely. Sometimes the zoom schedule can get f*d up, say because the last ínterview went on way too long, etc. Good luck!

They’ll likely read from a script and may be neutral/have flat affect. This is to avoid bias, not because you’re bombing the interview! Prep 3 questions, though you’ll probably only have time for 1. Time your answers during a practice- its a tight schedule, they should be concise. You got this!
