there's a youtube channel i watch that interviews multilangual people living in japan. every time women switch from let's say, english or spanish to japanese their voice becomes *noticeably* higher, and i wonder if this has something to do with how women are "supposed to act" in japanese society

After randomly stumbling on this video, I started noticing more and more similarities—lots of "shh," "sch," "shi," "za" sounds, plus "yu’s" and "ya’s," etc. A Japanese grandma saying "zashiki-warashi" and a Russian grandma saying "воробушки" just feel oddly similar.
