that being autistic is not a pathology: neurodevelopmental variation is literally a normal part of humanity, and having the majority neurotype is not the sole correct way to be human
(+ a corollary to this is that there really is no “autism,” only autistic people, and the idea that autism is an ailment inevitably harms autistic people & prevents allistic people from understanding us)
a late self-discovery is valid, and represents the recognition that we have always been autistic, even as we didn't have the language to describe our experience.
You do not have to understand autism. But you should respect doctor's expertise, not conspiracy theorists. And you need to understand that WE ARE ALL God's children,& should be treated with respect and dignity. There are different levels of support needs, & not one person is the same as the other.
How exhausting and taxing it is to play by their social rules and mask to be “normal”. How eye contact feels intense and uncomfortable. How sensory issues can make us feel ill. How we want to be accepted for who we are. How we want to feel safe enough in society to be completely unmasked.
We’ve got empathy and many of us have the ability and compassion to see perspectives of others .
Also, Apraxia of speech can be a co-occurring Neurodivergence.
