So many of us in America are impressed by, and taken in, by those who display glitz and glitter, but those people too often are flash in the pan. Jimmy Carter had staying power and went about doing what he could to improve this world without fanfare.

Jimmy Carter was a Christian. The kind I was raised by. Honest. Trustworthy. Do the right thing, because it is the right thing to do. Love, kindness, if there is any at all, there is enough to share. What always upset me about Carter is that after he lost the election he put so much effort in getting the hostages freed before he left office. Iran finally agreed. But they hated Carter so much they didn't release the hostages until he had officially stepped down.

So Reagan got all the credit.

Do some digging, there are many reports on how Reagan’s team negotiated to not having the hostages released under Carter. He knew if Carter were able to get the hostages released then Carter would be re-elected. 4 seal teams went in to rescue the hostages, but the terrorists knew they were coming.

Carter was a wonderful man. He also is an example of the importance of experience. He was the first in a 40-year stretch of outsider presidents, and his integrity wasn't enough to outweigh his inexperience. We still feel the effects of the choices of a foreign policy novice in Iran and Taiwan.

Jimmy was the man. He showed Iran we were the Super Power not to be messed with. I was lucky enough to get to spend hours in gas lines when he was President, really getting to know them. I miss those days. Night line was much watch every night.
