Yes, there is certainly an element of client journalism happening, as always, everywhere. I think other barriers here are normalcy bias & American exceptionalism. There were many voters that did not vote for various reasons, one being the Palestinian situation. Those voters were led to believe that sitting out the election was a protest against the way the Palestinians were being treated.
Of those that voted, almost half did NOT vote for trump.

Could be. The Ukraine situation is a big deal here in Canada too - in the other direction. Canada has the biggest Ukrainian diaspora in the world outside of Russia. They’ve been coming here to escape Russian oppression since the Holodomor in the 1930s.
