This is bad. Trump is awful and a puppet for Putin. But let's not forget that Bush killed hundreds of thousands of people, instituted torture, and eroded all of the international goodwill that came to us after 9/11. The path to fascism was paved awhile ago.

He did horrible things, but he did them under the guise of normalcy which I think put us on this path. His first term was handed to him by his brother, a handful of contested votes, and a complicit court. I think it is helpful to see Trump as part of a longer slide into fascism overseen by the GOP.

I think the difference is in degrees but the GOP apparatus has been working toward this moment my whole life. Trump has helped them get to this moment, but if we just focus on him we miss the ecosystem that underpins him.

He doesn't want peace. He has been instructed by Putin and wants a minerals deal. The US could have recouped their billions through a new Marshall Plan to rebuild Ukraine, but he is only interested in lining his own pockets. Zelenskyy will turn to Europe, they will win, and the US will be on out.
