My PAX East panel CoD Ghosts Is The Worst Game I Have Ever Played was approved, so I’ll be streaming a quick brainstorming play through starting in about a half hour.

It’s awful. It’s dull, suffers from all the negative elements of both cinematic shooters (no consistent through-line in mechanics) and its production (missions are a chaotic string of set pieces that were started ages before a script was written), and to top it off the story is grotesque jingoism.
That ending, man. Absolutely love it where I play a game and "win", but I've made the classic dumb player mistake of trying to kill the evil bad guy who turned on invincibility.
Is this the one where it gives you the interstitial screen talking about what they do when one of the Ghosts is killed, only in the initial cutscene, you also learn that the guy that got killed was the first Ghost to ever die?
I’m so glad this was the tweet that served as my yearly reminder that yes, cod ghosts was a real game that real people made that real people bought with real actual money
I like the sales pitch: "What if our multiplayer maps were bigger? What if the US was on the backfoot in a broken back war, and not The Aggressor But It's Fine When We Do It"
But they didn't do enough interesting stuff with the aesthetic and made it White Dude vs. White Dudes and not a war story
The maps were big but they didn't up the player count so they felt empty in MP and the story was the worst one, utterly sauceless with a shitty twist ending, and IMO it was more *openly racist* than any other CoD game too.
I thought they did up the player count? Except it was a cross generational game, so only the new hotness got the increased player count and you were stuck in wide open, empty, deserted 6v6 wastelands if you were previous gen.
It's also a game full of really conceptually cool setpieces, forever held back by the fact that the context and connecting tissue around them is bland and impossible to care about.
The tank airdrop sequence in particular deserved to be in a better game.
I got it because BlOps2 blew me away, it was schlocky but in a good war thriller way, and even said "OK terrorism against the US is bad but maybe we'd have less terrorists if we didn't do fucked up CIA shit so much". IMO maps were great and guns were punchy and balanced too
And just, Ghosts did nothing with the setting? A not quite apocalyptic war, but a big one, that has cratered US foreign power, continent versus continent, neighbor against neighbor? I wanna run a CoD Ghosts TTRPG one day it's such a cool premise and they needed it so hard.
"dad you're one of them you're a ghost"
its very fortunate they took the two cool space levels and decided to make a much better game out of that a few years later lol
I remember enjoying mw3, loving every bit of bo2, and then switching to ghosts and being so disappointed. You can feel how hellish the development process must have been
I remember thinking it was fine. Couldn’t really pinpoint anything that stands out besides the beginning and maybe the sequel bait that will never get followed up.
Slightly off-topic, but I heard in the stream that your silkposting panel was also approved. It's a topic I'm quite interested in, because while the community seems to be off one mind that Team Cherry is being unfair, I've also seen it argued that the development cycle has not been unusually long.
Plus, while the main complaint I've seen is that Team Cherry isn't communicating, along with the development time: I find it hard to be mad at an indie studio for not constantly talking to the community beyond "we're still working on it", which is basically exactly what they've been doing.
That's the one where the USA is shamelessly sneak-attacked by a coalition of South American nations by hijacking our orbital superweapon and attacking us with it, right?
i'm excited to see. it came out when i was 13 so i've logged a lot of hours into it and have some fond memories, but i've not played in years. i remember finding it implausible and underwhelming when i was young
i remember saying to myself, “if they make two bad cods in a row im out.” ghosts sucked, advanced warfare sucked, and i quit. wish i stuck around for black ops 3 though, that was a little upswing for the series, especially zombies
I love when they show what a bad guy the villain is by showing him torturing your ally, explain in a mission opening that he became that way through the Federation's brutal torture regime, then that mission starts with him tied to a chair while you punch him and ask why he's been hunting you.
Hmmm maybe I will go just to state my humble opinion that it had an interesting and different campaign (sick of it being a war with Russia or Middle East strikes)
And yes I only play the campaign- I buy them on sale
The boston world tour event is happening on the saturday of PAX East, there’s not much detail yet but it seems that theyre linked ? Worth keeping an eye on at least! https://www.tixr.com/groups/warcraft30-world-tour
Blizz has been putting out tickets in batches a few weeks before each one happens, I’d expect them to be available in April maybe. Keep an eye on wowhead, they’ve been on top of posting about it 👀

(Aliens ??????)
But really, Ghosts probably has the most reactionary story out of all CoD games. Still fun to play at times, decent levels.
