I'm not sure it's a strategy so much as capitalism and masculinity pressing towards useful over beautiful in an unavoidable wave of pressure, and then swinging the 'if you don't art right, you're a failure and a traitor' gun towards 'if you don't STEM right'

Which is why some institutions are changing it to STEAM. The a is for art. Architecture is technically engineering and art. Even in medicine, a great plastic surgeon or a surgeon that does complicated work can sometimes be called an artist. There is a place for art everywhere.

In fact, I hate to say this, but my experince was that other than CS majors it was generally humanties majors who assumed money was the prime motivator for someone choosing a degree(though not neccsarily cause they thought they would make tons)

Controversial opinion but many humanties departments appear to want a level of uniqueness that they dont neccsarily get if they take more funding. I have seen more acceptence of humanties from stem people than i have seen acceptence of stem amongst humanties in recent years.

As someone also in both -is it maybe a little it of jealousy from the humanities folks toward the science folks, because the latter can pretty easily get well-paying jobs right out of college even though humanities, in the grand scheme, are far more important to civilization?
