The partial exemption depends on which rabbi you ask. Way too many authorities say it's idolatry to extract lifesaving meds from a tree that has been used as an object of idol worship. There's a reason New Atheism caught on among secular Israelis in the 2000s.

No, but I think aspirin is uncommon there - at least when I was growing up, the palliative painkiller people used was paracetamol.
