I remember really wanting this and a PC Engine GT for portable Street Fighter 2. Being able to afford one on a paper round weekly salary though meant it didn't happen 😛

How many buttons does the GT have?

If it doesn’t have 6, you would have been very disappointed.

I don't think I've actually ever played the PC Engine version, even on an emulator.

That's the great thing about PC Engine, the games & graphics were often way better than what you'd expece from the hardware, especially compared to the Megadrive/Genesis or SNES.
