It's definitely not as simple as showing up at some other nation's national security apparatus and being like "hello I want a job" for obvious reasons. Some more opportunities in private sector, but like many other federal employees, a lot of defense folks simply can't get comparable jobs elsewhere.

There have been cases where the other country wants you enough to transfer TS/SCI or local equivalent over now and get you naturalized soon, most commonly when one of the FVEYs is dropping $PLANE and another is adding it. But that required the personnel security office to itself be trustworthy.

I know myself, and several other highly trained government contractors just shrugged, and moved into the private sector for our 30-50% pay increases.

My boss went from mid ones, to mid twos, and assuming this interview went as well as i think it did, i went from low ones, to high ones.

We left in 2023, anticipating a Trump win. Even before he was elected I already knew I'd never go back to the US. Now that he's in office he is simply destroying the country and there's nothing to go back to. Life is far better overseas, even before Trump.

Canada has always benefited from this. I grew up with a couple children of draft dodgers whose parents camped out on the coast of Nova Scotia in the 60s - they were bright and cool.
