This *is* medical advice, because we got it from a Dr we had to call out to our b&b in Sienna when my bf nearly died of acute bronchitis: to stop the cough settling on your lungs, gargle 3 times a day with lemon juice & baking soda dissolved in hot water. For good sleep (the best healer!), take a >
dose of chesty cough syrup (yes, even if you're cough is dry) & follow it up with an antihistamines like Nytol (the one per night stuff not the herbal nonsense.) That advice is from my pharmacist & is legit. If you need enough energy just to get yourself through the journey home, pop two Sudafed.
Thank you. I have made a note of this for future reference.
Love how it covers all the bases.
I might not get better, but I'm sure I'll feel better about being ill.
I might mix it withe the excellent suggestions that involve alcohol.
Not sure why this appeared on my timeline but I can help with some advice. You need to make a tea from dried Mullein leaf. Iβm lucky enough to have a wild supply, but you can buy it online. It is a wonder for respiratory problems.
I did once have a doctor who said none of these cures work and that Only whiskey did the trick !! I loved that doctor...such a shame he died early !!
seriously it outperforms benylin..or at least you feel as if it does...
best wishes xx
Try to drink something with Ginger or elderberry and get as much rest as possible. Plump your pillows up to help your cough if you find it hard to rest because of it. Fluids, rest, steam shower, repeat. Also fresh clean bed sheets! Get off your phone and disengage for a bit too!!
Put grated ginger, chopped lemon, cinnamon, cloves and honey in a thermos flask. Add hot water. Leave it a few minutes before sipping slowly....Not straight from the flask obviously.
(Also paracetamol and antibiotics)
Zoe this sounds mental but honestly please just spend 24-48 hours in bed. No phone, no TV, just lie there with your eyes closed, dozing if possible. I promise it speeds up recovery.
Do what you can. A doctor told me this when I had bad Covid and I was like βdonβt be preposterousβ but it turns out your body REALLY needs rest in these situations and me trying to be productive was making things worse. (Ps lol at the flu mansplainers)
Rest, stay warm, lots of warm herbal drinks with honey - lemon, ginger, thyme, sage are anti-infective, fennel seeds or anise help thin phlegm & make a cough productive. If you happen to have access to elderflower or yarrow they help sweat it out. Spicy food like curry, & chicken soup.Get well soon!
Do whatever helps you to sleep - esp painkillers if you have aches and pains. The last time I had it I was stuck in a foreign hotel and didn't have any meds. Hope you feel better soon!
If youβre not bedridden and are able to function, itβs not flu. The flu really really fucks you. Itβs probably the common cold. In any case, nothing will kick either other than time. Sudafed will help with symptoms. You can take ibuprofen simultaneously.
My point is, if you had flu, you wouldnβt be on Bluesky asking for ways to make it go by Saturday. Youβd be holed up in a fever dream wondering what day it is.
I have muscle aches, persistent cough, I'm bed ridden and have a temp of near 40. I'm so uncomfortable I can't sleep so I'm scrolling Bluesky and tiktok. Whether it's the common cold, COVID or flu it sucks and your pedantry, surprisingly, offers little comfort
Test for Covid, as if it is you need to take convalescence very seriously. Rest and hydrate for the fever. As to the cough, honey and lemon is the oldest and best really. And Iβd not take my germs as presents tbh! It may sound mean, but itβs best to keep them away from others if you can.
The fever you have to ride out, but adding a lot of moisture helps with the cough/congestion.
Steamy showers
Mucas thinners (Mucinex)
Dry throat spray (Biotene)
Nose saline spray
Oil of olbas (steam bowl or bath) inhaled before bed. Dark chocolate to coat the throat and ibuprofen and one whisky Mac. After all that you feel pretty human at least. Finally, put a pillow lengthwise at your back in bed and sleep as upright as you can.
Strongest opioids you can get access to.
Opioids are very good cough suppressants.
Nurofen Plus is the strongest available over the counter and contains ibuprofen which helps for fever.
I wonβt bore you with
the side effects
How horrid. Find a thick clean towel, boil a kettle and pour water into a big bowl. Put towel over head over the steaming bowl and inhale the steam for a long as possible. Paracetomol for fever.
