Given the right circumstances western democracies are very fragile. The UK and USA are two prime examples of how easy it is to undermine their constitution. I wonder if FPTP has anything to do with it?
What’s happening here in the US is a symptom of a rotted out system. That rot must be exposed in every way before we can rebuild. It’s going to hurt a lot more, but it’s necessary for real systemic change.
We are just as exposed in the UK. Ban foreign donations to political parties. Ban company donations to political parties. Cap individual donations to political parties…
Or don’t be surprised if foreign powers, companies and rich billionaires decide on what we do for us…
Seriously?
There are places on this planet different from the USA in doing things, in politics or whatever?
Or people?
Maybe Afghanistan, but it's temporarily, do not worry.
It’s January 2029. Trump ran as VP for the new POTUS who ‘won’ the election (that was definitely not rigged or stolen. Much.) in 2028. After inauguration, the POTUS resigns. Guess who gets a third term?
All democracies need to test potential candidates for any position of office for the dark triad of human personalities (pyscopathy/sociopathy, narcissism and machiavellianism).
This would go a long way to ensuring governments are not taken in and taken over by demagogues like Trump.
In the short/medium term there is no chance of any reform.
Democrats have, for too long, trusted in strength of the constitution. Even now, some still believe that there are sufficient checks/balances, eg Shumer.
Republicans are now all "cult" members, so a time period for change could be decades.

Britain needs STV to give power to the people and not to Murdoch.

Why are there political judges
