In my house we were all voracious readers. It was bred into us. I would make a fire in the living room and everyone would come in to be by it, and we’d all be reading. One of my brothers would be practicing classical guitar. It was heaven. Happy holidays to you and yours.

A core memory, though not of Christmas: having a birthday in July meant that all the new Harry Potter books came out around my birthday. The year I got Order of the Phoenix, I consumed that book. So much so that my mother tried to get me to put down the book and spend time with family.

A friend who ran a book store opened at 7am on release day and had a bunch of kids waiting. They paid for their books and immediately started reading. He got several calls from parents between 8-8:30 asking that their kids be sent home for breakfast.

Yesss… and I will be skipping the holidays to save my peace and put my sanity first. And I most definitely will be called antisocial and rude. But the good news is I have already finished one book on my first day of vacation.
