maybe we ditched invite codes a little too early, because there's a huge influx of bots and right-wing hatred on the app.

and marginalized communities are not feeling safe with how T&S has been operating.

confession: I spent 6 months in summer 2023 creating accounts on Bluesky ( @skyfleet.blue ) to bring mostly news content from the web over to Bluesky and make it more attractif to create retention and then used the 40 accounts of the fleet to invite people in with a system to distribute invite codes

You opened too early, before you had even implemented email verification of the new accounts. As a result Bluesky was flooded with millions of bots. I hope you find a way to remove them all, but of course it will be much harder now.
