Behind the Bastarddls recently did a great couple of episodes on that.
Long story short, people running the prison system saw a way to make lots of money by taking advantage of the shortage of blood and the desperation of impoverished criminals. Health crisises ensued.
because that’s how you create organ harvesting rings in the police… hell imprisoning is already over-incentivised by allowing the use of slavery as a punishment… it’s a slippery slope that prisons already have 1 foot on and just anticipating that step
It would be expensive, for one. Like hideously expensive. For another, it's unethical. And for a third, somebody somewhere would IMMEDIATELY exploit this for profit.
The silver lining in here is that should theoretically incentivize prisons to finally provide adequate healthcare ... but we all know what would actually happen.
See, I would have less problem with blood/plasma donations (only if they consent, after making sure they're healthy enough to afford that donation and without the carrot of reducing the sentence), as it's something they can easily reproduce unlike organs.
Federal prisons do allow live organ donation but only for immediate family. There is no ‘coercion’ nor ‘incentive’ offered, it’s purely voluntary. Most States forbid it, and also forbid posthumous organ donation by prisoners. It would be hella dystopian if prisons became organ harvesting factories.
Absolutely dystopian, but maybe if we did this, it'd help raise real questions about the prison system. 🤔
Just kidding. If we haven't abolished private prisons for the horrors they create in our society now, letting prisoners sell their kidneys to get out of minor drug offenses isn't gonna fix us.
I mean, if you've got some extra information about this account in particular that's great but like, all I did was check their profile and I couldn't really get a read on them, I'm not doing a deep dive to see if the guy talking about harvesting prisoners' organs was joking or not.

Also, please see the history of medical research in prisons.
Ah well probably not important

If it is a joke, it's a shitty one.
Each day they work is a day off their sentences. (10 yrs > 5 yrs)
My guess is the organ thing was satire based on that. What do their other posts have to do with it if they're all non-serious?
