Trump, and maybe his dumbest supporters (on either side of the border) are the only ones taking this idea seriously, but there are many more folks parroting it to toe the Trump line, or to troll.

Sure, there are pockets of people waving US flags right now, but this is as close to a unifying issue as you can get across party lines.

Americans are taught that they're the greatest country in the world. Nobody else is taught that.

It still stuns me that this is something our leaders say. It's like, we're the worst or pretty terrible at so many things, but we walk around with a chip on our shoulder screaming, 'WE'RE NUMBER 1!" like some 5-year old that had just pushed a kid smaller than us into the deep end of the pool.

Many def believe it and raise their children that way. Those folks make me fear for the future of the country. I don’t have the dewy-eyed perception of the US that I did when I was a child. But, I try to teach my kids to be humble but still recognize the freedoms they have that others might not.

The UK has a lasting impact from Empire mindset that we're the best in the world also, and it fuels a lot of xenophobia, denial about the state of things, and a defeatism/lack of belief that things could be better.

One of the advantages of growing up an hour's drive from the Canadian border was having just enough Canada in my accent that people didn't assume I was American when I was visiting Scotland.
