If you want a very silly, escapist series, I heartily recommend Dungeon Crawler Carl. If you have Kindle Unlimited, you can get most of the books free. They are funny, fast reading. This morning, I'm sitting here mucking about on Bluesky because I can't work up the energy to check the email of the account that doesn't have its password saved or check the status of a payment acct, or anything that involves having to type in a password. That's how bad the mental exhaustion is.

I have stacks of stuff around I want to read or feel I should want to read, physical and ebook, and I can't even open them. They accumulate for 'later' but when is that going to arrive?

I often get hit with a terrible lassitude when the book I am reading is stressful without compelling me on. I don't even know where the boundary between "stresses me out" and "irresistible forward motion" falls, I just know when it happens.

I often enjoy the books I found stressful, I just feel a resistance to going back to them, like I'm keeping the characters safe by leaving them frozen. My current strategy is interspersing heavier reads with light novels and fluffy romances, which also helps me differentiate both in my recollection.

More often than not these days, I'll read the end of the book to have the safety of knowing how it ends before I can read the middle -- but I do this for books I've read even multiple times. Mind is just too overwhelmed, I guess.

There’s a renaissance of literature coming out of Norther Ireland in recent years, in fiction, crime thrillers and biographies you might find compelling! The language are prosaic and engaging because the Troubles they survived are happening here in the US currently! History does repeat itself!
