Curious what Dolly Parton’s free book charity is doing. Can’t imagine she’d give in. Maybe she can add the children in the base to her free book list. And Campbell is in heavily black area and has a large number of black soldiers. How do you think they are taking this?
I have The Kite Runner and Looking for Alaska. Read a few of the Crank books years ago 💙 will def be looking for them next month at a library liquidation sale
Rising authoritarianism worldwide inspired me to write an allegorical trilogy on the perils of fascism: 1) unnecessary war, 2) failed democracy & resulting climate crisis, & 3) racially-motivated subjugation.
Not doing Amanazi so with that being said, any place else to buy your books from? If so you might want to post an alternative site since some are no longer associating with AmaNazi.
You can also buy books directly from independent bookstores with an online presence. There are quite a few in my geographic catchment area, but I suppose they would ship throughout the country.
Banned books are great, so read them! But none of these things stop book bans:
- buying banned books
- donating banned books to libraries
- checking out banned books

I have not quite got this figured fully out in my head yet, but what about a read it forward campaign.(kind of like the pay it forward people are doing) But with books, make a sticker that says if you find this book read it and pass it forward and leave them where they can be found.
We got little libraries all over our town, too. I'm thinking more like places people have to wait and will get bored and pick them up for something to read while waiting. Hence, on public transport.
That's why a lot use phone boxes next to bus or train stations too. Maybe people could organise little pop ups where people waiting could browse and maybe pick up/leave a book? Sounds a great idea!
Remember, we got maga here, and their not very civilized. I'm not sure if some of them are house trained. I know the last cat I had was far more intelligent than the maga mob is and listened better to.
Also, here in the States, we're a more car centric culture, and a lot of the little libraries are on side streets and only really used by locals. I'm lucky to live in a blue state, and there are people already putting banned books in them.
Of course, I forgot you guys have more space and drive more! (My face when I saw a drive through cash point!). I mean I'm sure those of us with access will keep you topped up, even if they do 😉. I am sorry for the current insanity there, but glad you're in a sane state at least!
Someone said this would not work in red states it felt like they were wrong. But I couldn't think why, so I agreed with them. But while answering a completely different post it hit me why they where wrong and it's more important in red states. Hang on might take abit.
We need to think of this as war. Maga is using Blitzkrieg tactics and flooding us with decoy attacks. We can't take them head-on, as they control the government. So, we need to use gorilla tactics use the books like landmines but not the normal way.
The little libraries are like mine fields they concentrate the mines in one area, and once detected, they can be deactivated, just cruise by them and clean them out. We need to use gorilla tactics, spread them out so they are harder to find, and from time to time put out more in different places.
Even if most are found by the bad guys and taken out of play, if just a few get to the people who need to read them. I personally would consider it a success, don't need to flood the area even just a few at a time could make a difference. Especially for people who need the stories.
I can see why 19 Minutes and 13 Reasons Why are incredibly rough, and I would be concerned with my kid reading them, especially as a teenager. That said, I don’t believe in banning and wouldn’t even stop my own kid from reading. We would just have to have a lot of conversation about the content.
Just bought The Handmaid's Tale/Testaments and Parable of the Sower/Parable of the Talents. Wish I could afford hardcovers but paperbacks are better than nothing.
If nothing else, this could be a great list for reading recommendations. It would be a great starter list for any book club. I read a lot of these books and love them. I am surprised Lord of the Flies didn’t make the list.
They’d crucify me there & celebrate in Canada. Of the classics I’ve many 1st editions fr Grands and Parents library.
Most nice past down to sons as they will to their children.
That precious. I lugged those boxes to different places called home for over 40 years.

...the last few barriers holding back the floodwaters of stupidity are coming down, Finally! Dept of education, history books, go NERO!(national education reduction operation, subcategory under DOGE) Go M-rump🇺🇸
I believe no book should ever be banned, as long as it doesn't promote bigotry. Every book has the potential to educate, challenge, and expand our thinking
So they’re banning books that push dangerous ideologies? I don’t see a problem with this. I’m all for books like this, freedom of speech and all but some of these shouldn’t be readily available to young children. Give them some time before they have the option to read some of this stuff.
Idk exactly which books you’re referring to. But as someone who went through 12 years of school to find out that most of what I was taught in history, world civ etc was either a lie or white washed. I don’t want to “give them some time” I want my kids taught subjects the way they happened.
Learning proper history, the way that it REALLY was is kind of subjective. Everyone has their own version. How do we really know if we’re being told the truth? The TRUTH is that we’ll NEVER know. One man’s truth is another man’s lie.
History contains objective facts, but the way it is recorded, remembered, and taught is often subjective. Recognizing this allows for a more critical approach to learning history, questioning who tells the story and what perspectives might be missing. History isn’t subjective. People are.
When you’re taught history through the eyes of the “winner,” you’re told, “everyone has their own version.” & when you’re taught that our country did nothing wrong and only reacted to justify its actions, that’s not one man’s truth—that’s washing history to indoctrinate.
And we all know that indoctrination is the way to go these days. There are unbiased sources out there. Just gotta dig deep and find them. Before they’re gone forever, that is.
Nah, go after the people who are banning them. Go to your local school board meetings. Look into getting on your local library's Board. You reading these doesn't keep them accessible to everyone else in your community.
