It’s also almost as good for “peak” MySpace (the Timberlake era, not the original one) for finding stuff that never got a distribution deal, especially if it was stuff that just got released as an EP or whatever.
I only now bothered setting up a bandcamp for the sake of having one, even though I was reluctant to do so bc my audience is so puny it doesn't really make sense to go thru the effort.
I still REFUSE to put my music on Spotify tho. Music will always be a hobby and I want full control over it.
Yes!!!!! Ive been exclusively using Bandcamp ever since I first saw the stats of how little artists are paid by Spotify. Small artists are now being paid literally nothing! Not every artist will be on Bandcamp, of course, but there’s some really amazing stuff on there and so many ways to discover.
is zero really that much better than virtually zero? A successful album takes years to get the artist one peanut in revenue on spotify, but they cost plenty to subscribe to.
I think the zero is worse, personally. Also you can actually use Spotify for free on desktop or tablet with full functionality. So you can pay nothing and the artist will still get paid for the play.
Bandcamp is great…except for the fact that they pay nothing for streams. If you’re going to stream for free just to check stuff out to see if you like it, it’s better for the artist if you stream from a free Spotify account.
On Bandcamp, artists have the option to charge for their music so that it is not free, or they can limit free streams. On Spotify you don't make any money if you have less that 1,000 regular listeners (which is most musicians). Even if you manage to achieve that, you only make .003 cents per stream.
If wireless, the Bose QuietComfort are pretty great when paired with lossless audio. True audiophiles will only do wired connections but Iove the Bose QC.
When you think about how often you actually sit down and listen to a new album rather than just all the music you already have in your streaming rotation, 5 bucks an album as opposed to 15 every single month for Spotify premium seems like a no brainer
I’ll be honest, I buy the album on Bandcamp and then stream it anyway because I have an iPhone and getting music off Bandcamp and onto my phone is a huge pain.
I hate how hard the two platforms intentionally made playing music we own on our phones after they decided that forcing us into streaming subscriptions was the way forward. It's a bit easier to get around on Android i think but I also have a rebuilt iPod Classic for general tune totage 🎶
My rebuilt iPod can actually play FLACs and with a terabyte of flash memory, can fit them too even (not that it really needs/benefits from them). I'm in the process stepping away from smartphones again though. Went Light Phone 2 a couple years ago but couldn't stick it. Pre-ordered the LP3 last year
Kinda? You're better off using iTunes or however they've replaced it on macOS to copy into the Apple Music app, and turn off the cloud stuff within it to just have it be like an old iPod Touch
For sure. Your system is definitely the way to go. I just think it's cool to see the curated Bandcamp library this way, but you're definitely right that it has its limits.
But if you just stream an album on Bandcamp the artist gets nothing…so if you ARE going to stream for free and maybe not buy it, please do it anywhere other than Bandcamp. Like, stream on Spotify or Apple to see if you like it and then if you do, buy it on Bandcamp.
Sort of. A song needs to have 1000 streams a year for the recording artist to get paid, which I do think is unfair and it cuts out most of my stuff but it's not a totally impossible barrier. HOWEVER they still pay the songwriters through BMI or ASCAP per play, there's no way for them around that.

ome time my friend looped an album for a whole month and it made me 8 dollars which is around the amount that album costs on bandcamp

You can use Bandcamp as a way great way to tip your favorite artists more directly.
Their songs are often very cheap on there because of this reason.
