Or Walmart don’t forget Walmart… Not only did they not pay their employees enough they give them classes on how to get welfare because they don’t want to increase their pay and they just cut all their DEI programs
They givemoney to Republican Party. Walmarts business plan they teach it in b school. Go to small towns and run out all the mom and pop stores. They can’t compete, Walmart only cares about $ They had eggs at 11.99 higher than Whole food and not even organic etc
All corporations do this that’s what Zuckerberg is doing. That’s why he’s attacking TikTok. When something good comes out They either buy it or they destroy it google does it look what they’re doing to Waze they ruined it. It’s ridiculous. Whenever possible try to avoid these companies.
You obviously missed my point. Where did you see me say Walmart is the only company that does this? What I was saying the one thing we learned in BSchool which I attended was about Walmart it’s vision plan mission and how up front they are about it. Most companies don’t advertise it!
I’m sorry by agreeing with you and saying all corporations do it was I saying you implied they weren’t? I thought I was agreeing with you and adding onto your thought… Not sure why you took it confrontationally have a great day.
That's a great thought, but not wholly practical. So many places have ditched their DEI initiatives. There really is no ethical consumption under capitalism, and it sucks.
Shop local as much as possible. And question whether you even need the given thing. Buy used, etc. good luck, friend. This won’t be easy, but it could be way harder…
I found this list on FB. I know Costco has committed to continuing their DEI hiring practices and Amazon is scaling back. Those scaling back don't deserve another dime from Americans.
Boy car all companies been in the knee because they deserve to be treated like the lickspittles they are! Do not cooperate, do not collaborate, do not facilitate! Resist the administration and its goals wherever you can! Frustrate! Slow your pace, misdirect, make mistakes, make them wait, FRUSTRATE!
Don't apply for jobs in red states if your skin isn't white they will fire you when they think they don't need you any more and pretend you were a DEI hire even if you have done the job for 17 years
Our local Walmart, Target, & Sam’s (we don’t have any Costco close) has more black & brown hires than whites, which makes me happy. I’ve only seen a couple white men. Our local grocery store has only a couple women & I have yet to see any black or brown men or women there. 😢
You do understand that DEI was for women too no matter what the race. Because women were not being hired to run companies etc. it was the good old boys club that we belonged in the kitchen not the board room. The people who benefited the most from the higher paying job not min wage was white women
Of course they hire them for low paying retail jobs. What do their corporate offices and leadership teams look like? More importantly, what will they look like in the future when DEI isn’t around to remind them that white men aren’t automatically the best option.
I can't believe they took my Target too. I already boycott Walmart. Not you too Target!!!
I'll be heading to Costco from here on I guess. And my Aldi is opening soon, so those will be my 2
💯 I was in a Women in Tech Leadership program at Target shortly before the pandemic. All of that is getting scrapped. I’m glad I don’t work there anymore and took my skills to an org that is committed to DEI.
Our "side" needs to quit the "easy" acronyms.
Making a policy "slogan ready" with initials makes it much easier for the hatemongers to mock and deride.
Rather than #DEI, if we said "Fairness Doctrine," how would they fight this?
They'd have to shout things like, "I hate fairness!" - not catchy.
I am not intending to be officious. I'm simply saying that in any battle, we do well not to provide ammunition directly to our opponents AND we need to stop allowing our foes to define the terms of the conversation.
i joined three months ago to support them even though i can’t get their to shop very often. One of the few companies that I support giving my money too because of their values to The U.S. Veteran hiring and employee practices and their policy on DEI
Many successful movements have been coordinated here. It remains to be seen if that’ll happen again but I’m betting that when people are pissed off enough, it will.
Hello, I am Kholoud from Palestine, Gaza, a mother of two girls. We had dreams and a home and lived a happy life, but everything was destroyed because of the war. We are the ones who were wronged by it. Please support my children so that we can survive and stay strong.🙏🏻 https://gofund.me/8213f83e
Unfortunately probably true on the whole. I’m definitely changing my shopping habits & withholding my dollars from companies aligning with fascism. WW have to get uncomfortable for once. I’m shocked that Target made their decision but I’m hoping there’s economic repercussions for them.
Excellent post. We must commit to stand against the oppressors and oligarchs. Here is an updated list of companies committed to DEI. Let's hit these billionaires kissing the ring where it hurts them most. Buy what you need from small local businesses if you can. Hold back our spending power!
Yep, going to go get a Costco card today, then I'm marching my Sam's club card up to the customer desk. I have a statement ready, and I'm throwing the card at them.
Also, Costco is almost 40 mins farther then Sam's club. The sacrifice is smaller now.
This mentality of attacking people on front lines of these businesses is not the way though. These are corporate decisions, don’t take it out on hourly workers. Bean counters will see downward impact soon enough & that’s what gets ownership’s attention.
The idea isn't to take it out on anyone, but to make sure the message gets sent. If enough experiences trickle up, the message can be sent.
I promise not to attack, or demean them, them anyone.
Just goes to show that if they don’t have to be fair, they won’t be. It’s WHY regulations exists in capitalism…capitalist won’t do it.
Do not patronize ANY store that is not diverse. It doesn’t have to be that they won’t hire others. If they’ve removed those protections, they lose profit. Period.
It is very hard not to buy where you don’t want to be hired. Sometimes it means using more fossil fuels and kind of counter productive. But I still like this approach combined with other action
I agree. We have Costco and Sams in my area, but Sam's is less than a 10 minute drive, and my husband's employer pays for our membership. Costco is across town. 😭 I want to start planning trips to Costco when I already need to be on that side of town.
I’m glad you found a solution. I try to be reasonable not to feel too guilty for making certain necessary purchases. Sometimes it’s a privilege to vote with one’s dollar. I think it’s important to write to lawmakers and push for regulations
fwiw, I won't buy where you won't be hired, either. Cancelled my Amazon prime renewal a couple weeks ago as one example. Solidarity is going to be more important than ever these next four years.
Costco will see an increase. Seriously I'm on a limited income like everyone else ... Walmart gets about 600 a month in groceries a month.. and that's being safe. I'm done with BS! Costco will have an increase and local ma and pa for what Costco doesn't have.
Prioritizing locally owned, minority owned, woman owned businesses for my dollars.
Corporations bleed us for every penny, at every opportunity, while striving to give back as little as possible to the people who enable their vast fortunes.
They've eaten enough, time for them to starve now, and die.
Behave
Or
You will lose the power of the dollar.
After that
You will be a refugee in other countries.
Good luck
With selling chaos for a while.
You will end up destroying yourself.
I am privileged, would probably be hired anywhere, so I don't buy where any qualified person would not be hired or offered training. It's not like our options for places to spend our money are limited.
Also, folks who aren't worried about being discriminated against, don't buy where people you know, love, respect, or would choose to spend time with won't be hired.
Nope. They think it means s giving jobs to women or Black folx the believe aren't qualified. Funny thing is, they will never admit why they consider members of those 2 demographics to be unqualified 🤔
I already pledge never to:
- Buy Amazon products.
- Buy Tesla Nazi products
- Use Facebook slowly transitioning to Bluesky
- We must hit this fascist with boycotts - the only thing these fascist greedy bastards understand is $$
I am white with tons of privilege, and no longer competing for a job. Nonetheless, I will not spend $$ anywhere that will not strive to hire heretofore marginalized people no matter their exceptional competencies.
You do know DEI was for women it didn’t matter what the race. Because we know about the boys club who would hire anyone. So the people who did benefit from DEI is white women.
Yes, agreed, and I no doubt benefitted as a woman competing for senior executive jobs in healthcare. For decades. Did I at times get paid less? Yes. Did less qualified men get jobs? Yes. There is so much work to do for our daughters and granddaughters. And it just got way harder.
I agree with you and it can be done. We always are smarter better schools etc.But it can be done look at what Billie Jean King Venus Williams etc for women tennis. It’s an uphill battle and we have to keep it moving for the next generation.
Yes they surrendered to a rapist criminally insane constitutionaly banned from office illegally squatting in office treasonous insurectionist banned from this office now already by #Amendment14_3 and it's banned comforters ,
As an european I am also in. There is nothing more off-putting than companies that support the current president of America and his horrible ideologies.
Do not buy where you or the people you stand for/beside/behind won’t be hired.
My money will only be spent in places that reflect my values of DEI and inclusive spaces.
Exactly... as a former catholic, I am giving up Amazon for 40 days and 40 nights...I would suggest that everyone do the same but I know they will not...
I must say, I have saved a bundle in this past week!
Do not buy where anyone won’t be hired because of their race religion age disability etc. it can never be only for how it affects us but how it affects our neighbors and those we don’t know.
Including online spaces! We have allowed monsters to lure us into their dens. Leave Amazon, Meta, Paypal, X, NYT, LAT and so on. I'll sever connections with these services, who no longer can serve me. I'd rather face inconvenience, and have access to less entertainment than what is clearly coming.
I’ve not been spending for about a year except on groceries, bills and gas. Working on the digital realm also. What can I use (secure) instead of PayPal? I don’t know if my CU (credit union) allows for Zelle. I’ve been using PayPal most of the 21st century!
I know - they've really penetrated our financial lives, like a cancer, which to cut out will cause harm. I don't know what you can do. And people in the digital realm are really at their mercy. I'm sorry and I have no suggestions. :(
Absolutely!!
I’m a long haul truck driver and surrounded by the MAGA nut jobs 24/7.
I’m doing my best to find as many businesses as I can that are small businesses, or in general DEI businesses of all kinds, clothing, grocery stores, barbers, you name it!!!
Costco is still promoting DEI. Of course Walmart is doing away with DEI. Amazon is also kissing the ring or _ s s of you know who. I avoid any purchases from. Walmart or Amazon
This. I don’t need anything on an emergency basis. I had gotten lazy. I will go in person or ship from a store that’s not local. I’ll be prudent about what I buy and will have a better impact on my community and environment as a result. This is kind of a silver lining?
I wish there was no need for DEI but until this MLK quote is true, we need it. “I have a dream that my four little children will one day live in a nation where they will not be judged by the color of their skin but by the content of their character.”
I think the biggest misconception about DEI that it is for black and brown people. DEI is also about women breaking the glass ceiling from the boys club who believe women should be in the kitchen instead of the boardroom. Realistically DEI has benefited white women the more than any other group.
This is NOT helpful cause no one has bothered to put together a list of DEI friendly places
which is shwy bluesky is so bad; 100s, no thousands of people posting cute posts like this, no one organizing to put together a list of places like Costco
Not trying to co-opt this, genuinely trying to be supportive. Is there a version of this for white people? Like, I don't want to be buying from places that wouldn't hire y'all neither. Is it just look for places getting rid of DEI or is it more than that?
Bit by bit, dollar for dollar, we can Undo Their Wealth ... stop buying their products, stop subscribing to their platforms, stop buying from their advertisers and stop buying their stock ....
ending DEI is the very only think i agree with the Orange. If you are good in the job you are applying for - you get hired. No one will turn you back just because you are black, asian or latino. Nobody care what gender you are if you are the best in what you do.
Let me guess, you're white and male. How would you know that "nobody" discriminates against women, Minorities and LGBTQ+? It's done behind closed doors with weird excuses, but not to you.
So all you can say that you haven't witnessed it.
yes - white, middle aged male(me on the profile photo). Proud to say that my stepdaughter grew in her career because she is smart and hardworking, not because she is black…. and she rebuked the DEI policies in her profession because they undermine her efforts.
Nobody has a career "because " they're black, rather despite of it.
I also had a successful career despite being denied a promotion because I was pregnant, despite my boss telling me he wished there was nobody in the department who spoke German, etc..
We do persevere DESPITE all the shit.
My wife is not involved in social media and therefore, not fully aware of what's happening and I already told her to just buy at Costco for right now, and when she new my reasons she agreed and I thanked her for supporting our communities being attacked.
Only issue with them.. their pricing.. they have the peak pricing and that’s horrendous for people to have to pay when it’s “busy” hour or items are selling fast.
Can you make a “BlueSky” list? I am assuming that some (not all of course) are here on BlueSky or will be soon.
@nordstromes.bsky.social, @giantfood.bsky.social, @harristeeter.bsky.social (I don’t think that TJ Maxx is here yet)
Love this idea. Also, just a heads up that the Blue Sky you listed for Nordstrom’s (the clothing company) is different than the “Nordstromes” listed above.
I'm sure they meant they won't have a "quota" which means it's up to them to decide who's qualified. They are facing a backlash even though they MIGHT do the right thing.
Maybe shop where the leadership is non white males?
It's about identifying & informing a target market – or creating it.
Even big businesses start small. But it is a dedicated pursuit.
Small businesses also keep community wealth local. Large businesses impoverish local communities by shipping the turnover off to HQ.
Voting with your dollars isn't feasible for everyone for a number of reasons.
If possible, just spend as little as possible there. Just the essentials and things that can't wait for a trip to a bigger city or shipped from somewhere else.
The new meaning of DEI for this administration is Desperately Employ Ignorant (DEI). Hire unfit people over people of color that have more qualifications.
Just said this to my sister today! I explained DEI was an action before Civil Rights Act and before she was born. She just won't listen to anything other than right-wing media. 😞
This is what I like to see on social media--connecting the dots and taking appropriate action, and reporting that action to inspire others to take similar actions.

Do not shop Target
On my tombstone, I want written:
She never shopped at Walmart.
They’ll hire all of us. They won’t promote us. We the labor.

I don't understand the rush big business has to dump DEI. I don't think it will gain much favor with Trump. He only cares about money.
How hard is it to keep doing what they've been doing and being successful? I guess the cruelty is the point, as usual.

Forget about them.
Yes, we will be shopping more at Costco.

We used to be just fine with our shopping needs before Amazon. It is the consumers who built up Amazon and it is the consumers who can bring it down.
Time to return to brick and mortar stores that support our values.
I refuse to patronize ANY companies taking the knee for Trump, or not taking a stance against his fascism/racism.
SHOP ONLY WHERE THEY USE DEI hiring practices.
Hard enough here
That includes letting them think DEI doesn't apply to women because its normal to see women working everywhere.
