After Eddie Murphy actually doing a (brilliant) impression (a welcome change from his limp 40th anniversary appearance), the SNL at 50 returnee I was most excited to see was former bandleader G.E. Smith, whose stage presence I was irrationally obsessed with in the late 80s.
Comments
I first noticed GE Smith when he was playing with Hall & Oates, and then shortly afterwards he was heading the SNL band. With his on-camera performances, he seemed as much a cast member to me as Jon Lovitz or Dennis Miller.
He was briefly married to Gilda Radner.
He led the house band at the 2012 and 2016 Republican National Conventions but denied that he is a Republican. It was "just another job."
I’m a small account, but when I clicked “trending”, SO MANY accounts I follow are posting about the show.
