And this is what I would do to revive the franchise. The original Star Wars was great at world building. Stop with the fan service (and I’m a dedicated fan) and just write new stories in that world.

It's also what I think the Star wars owners struggle with a bit: the power of the brand is it's aesthetic. The stories within it are often meh. But you can just write a great story and splash on a star wars sticker and away you go

the original movies were each only 3 or 4 settings per movie. they were small stories that are more than the sum of their parts and, somehow, despite the smallness, are larger than life.

My son spent his winter break rewatching the first 6 films in the order they were filmed. I was a kid for the OG 3, and I’m still annoyed Lucas did prequel next instead of just continuing forward.

Thrawn, definitely.

But more than Thrawn and Zahn's works: the Expanded Universe (I refuse to call it Legends). Giving writers tiny pieces of the canon larger universe was a renaissance. Maybe they could just... bring that back?

I still hunt for books from that period. So many good stories there.

Ahsoka is attempting to bring Thrawn into the Disney era. As long as it doesn’t get cancelled I guess. I don’t think they can do the Zahn trilogy unless they change the ending so he gets exiled to another galaxy
