Depends on the game. Most games? Straight fighter. OoT and Twilight Princess? Fighter/bard. BotW/Totk? Fighter/artificer, maybe.

As a gamer that long predated any actual play stuff, I want to add to the "just let the players roll" bit. One of my most frustrating sessions (once I dumped a toxic GM) involved my paladin making worse and worse arguments in a diplomatic setting because the GM wouldn't let me roll Diplomacy.

To be honest, either you want to be nightcrawler, or you wanna be Spider-Man...

And Kurt was Spider-Man at some point, so really being Nightcrawler is just what you want. Blue skin is worth it, and a bonus for some.
