Seems pretty depressing that Vinyl Me, Please is publishing A.I. slop about Deerhoof, a band that consistently embodies whatever the opposite of A.I. slop is.

This would look neurotic if a person wrote it. Every sentence has the band’s name in it like the writer’s worried we’ll forget what they’re talking about. Every idea reads like an attempt to avoid saying something specific.
Yet another reason why AI sucks. Someone good with words (not me, obvs) could tell you why they're consistently the most creative band out there and that they're absolutely untouchable in a concert setting.
the worst of this I’ve seen in recent months was a description of a Soul Asylum reissue for Record Store Day (the high school prom in question was a multi-school affair in an airplane hangar after many were displaced by an immense regional flood, hence the title)
It’s crazy because writing about music really isn’t that hard. All you have to do is not write something like “the ecstatic colloquialism of populist songwriting” and you’re golden
this is human-written and pulled from the press kit for the record. a lot of press kit writing is BAD due to a confluence of factors around advertising. same info is on third man’s site and i found the press kit in my email
Agree, press releases can be rough. @iza3800.bsky.social just translated one into Spanish (not gonna name the artist) and her version is a definite improvement.
I was incensed with them a year ago when they renewed my annual membership without asking me (something they specifically claimed to not do) and then saying they won’t give refunds on sub cancellations. Luckily this was my last month.
This isn't much different than the 50th-percentile human-written record-label press kit pablum of the pre-AI era. These things have frequently been terrible!
(and since those were in the training corpus, the AI is probably quite pleased with itself for accurately aping that dreck!)
