I know absolutely nothing about Battletech, but as someone who has to stand Nazi shit-for-brain dumbasses on two of my hobbies: If you're a nazi, take your shit and go away. Cry in the corner, you don't belong in any community because if it were up to you, there'd only be the nazi community.
I'm sorry, I know people love this game but there's no way you can think those models are on the same level as the new Emperors Children release. I'm good.
These also aren't a car payment in price. Seriously 22 USD for four mechs. You also get way better rules, and they don't change every 10 minutes. You also don't have a dumpster tier community.
A 40k army is well north of 1k these days if you want a decent army. I might have around the cost of 1, 40k army for so much overkill across 16 factions in btech. Better game, more models, better community it's a no brainer.
GW models aren't anything to write home about in terms of quality either these days compared to what people have come up with in display models (for way cheaper) too, in 3d prints for again way less cash. They don't honestly do ANYTHING well for the value provided. Not aesthetics, nor gameplay
GW models aren't the only models outside of Battletech.
Both have grossly exagerrated guns, and look awful and out of scale because of that.
Admittedly, I have never seen a Battletech mini in person - models often look different to pictures.
I was so happy to see this sort of thing when starting to come back to BattleTech after 25ish (or so, shh) years away. If I'm going to support a game and a company, I like that everyone gets to enjoy it.
I played battletech for the first time a couple nights ago. The fan base at least in my area seems way more chill. It was nice just being able to go out and hang.
I’ve been playing since the early 90s in north and central Florida and it barely existed there. Was shocked to see the numbers here when I moved up last year
The biggest day I’ve seen here was 14 and we’ve regularly had 9. I hadn’t seen these numbers outside of conventions. And none of them appear to be bigots. It’s wild
Used to think Blain Lee Pardoe was a decent writer until Behind the Bastards did an episode where they read parts of one of his non BT books. It was baaaaad
I used to like his BattleTech books when I was younger. I've reread some of them recently and they really do not hold up, they definitely give away what kind of person he was going to turn into. Apart from just kind of sucking once you grow into any sort of standards.
Recently read the first of his books I ever read - Exodus Road - and... That was such a slog. The main character was such an unlikable incel-like ass, seeing himself as the victim at every turn. It was terrible. I dread any additional BLP books I may find myself reading.
I really wanted to like that one but to me the characters seemed a little flat. Maybe it's because I started it after finishing the Founding of the Clans series and those are by a different author
Pardoe's issue is that he didn't have any social media exposure until around the time of Battletech's resurgence with the original Kickstarter. Loads of people suddenly flocked to the game on FB/Twitter...and Blaine was one of the few old school authors who showed back up.
Blaine started to see himself AS the Battletech guy, given that Stackpole and others had moved on or were piecemeal in their efforts to write again for it.
It was then that his conservative views came to the forefront and exposed to fans.
He started raging against fans, sharing his misogynist and anti-LGBTQ views in forums and posts, and he'd had several of his Conservative commentary blog posts and articles written online noticed by fans.
I don't have any direct evidence of it, but I'm willing to bet that his 'We're in a civil war' article he posted online on a conservative site just prior to his being let go by Catalyst was the final nail in his coffin. He said some ripe stuff in that.
I was writing for BattleTech while BLP was the lead novel author. He isn't quite horrible enough to deserve a full Behind the Bastards episode, but goddamn it felt good to hear @iwriteok.bsky.social tear his book a new asshole.
There’s an episode of behind the bastards about the “nice normal people” that were nazis and I feel like it applies to him. It’s an older episode about how everyday folks were also Nazis and sucked shit
