So here's what I really need to know. Let's suppose the US has no representation at WHO. WHO approves strains. US manufacturers download the spec. They get to work on vaccines.

What are the odds that the FDA will approve the vaccines?

In other words, will I have to get my flu shot in Canada?

No one is going to know this until the relevant meetings happen (or don’t) and the FDA acts according to their recommendations (or not). The uncertainty is bad but it’s what we have.

Offit is a bit of a loose cannon with the press and has sometimes sparked little panics by suggesting that eg covid vaccines wouldn’t get approved for general pop (this was under Biden) so if you’re following this story later, maybe account for that. But I’m glad he’s talking now.

Yeah we can hoard that for all these other things, including the eventual FDA approval (or not) and CDC rubberstamping (or not) of the fall vaccines, both of which normally work from recs from two independent committees. We shall seeeeee.
