anybody else grow up with parents who couldn’t cook? that’s one of the main reasons i don’t cook if i don’t want to. the way i eat now for the most part is how i ate as a kid. i keep snacks in the house & very seldom do i have enough for a proper meal here. i have to want it to buy it. - ThreadSky

My wife did, and it's not that they *couldn't* cook, it's more that they had no idea about spices, taste, or creativity. When we got together and I put salt on mashed potatoes, she looked at me like I was nuts, until she tried it.

oh no. my dad never cooked & when he did it was some kind of concoction & my mom only had 2-3 things she could cook well.

I'd suggest picking 2 or 3 things you really like and looking at some recipes and giving them a shot yourself (and changing them a little to your taste) . I now have a few things I make myself that I like better than anyone (friend/family/restaurant) makes it. You might surprise yourself.

that’s a good idea when i decide to cook more frequently. for me as a single person i don’t really NEED to cook since there are other convenient options for one available. i can & do cook but only when i feel like it.

my mom could cook but she was not on that daily mess. we ate good on thanksgiving, new years and easter so yea im all about snacks and quick meals
