While the warfare state seems all too natural to most politicians and journalists, its consequences have been transformational for the United States in ways that have skewed the political climate.

You failed to mention trumps renewed interest in conquering ally sovereign nations,I wonder if you can qualify that as militarism?and also that he lies about everything,he will do and say anything to get elected, he is as much a hawk and a con as the rest, you are giving him too much credit as usual
I have been a subscriber for years. We can and must be critical of ourselves and our leaders. And, of course, Trump/GOP bashing gets exhausting. But so does "look how the dems caused all this." We need some more nuance here, especially to build a winning coalition.
Media always trashing Biden, the best President in so many ways in recent memory. Both of these wars were not started by the US but you pin the blame on him. Always so unfair.
Please read the article. The Democrats have become the party of War and the people are tired of it. The party needs to change if it wants to win elections.

nobody hates anything more than to give with heartfelt genuine care.. then have your hard earned gift used for bad or frivolous ends you thought you were spending for what they asked for ,milk n shoes for the kids.... this is why people hate foreign aid .. hate to be foolish
"The runaway militarism of the last quarter-century was a crucial factor in making President Trump possible, even if it goes virtually unmentioned in mainstream media. .. silence is particularly notable among Democratic leaders, who joined in bipartisan messaging to boost the warfare state..."
"Working-class Americans had more modest goals for their government. Distress festered as income inequality widened and economic hardships worsened, while federal spending on war, the Pentagon budget, and the “national security” state continued to zoom upward."
" McCain, Clinton, and their cohort weren’t tired of US warfare—in fact, they kept glorifying it—but many in non-affluent communities had grown sick of its stateside consequences."
Trump bad but dems as bad or worse? Is this your journalistic take on our current events?? Trump is aiding Russia against Ukraine AS WE SPEAK and we're reading this?
This is like one of those PhD theses where a candidate has to try really hard to pick a topic that no one else has ever researched and the argument ends up being weak, full of supposition and with zero actual evidence to back up the claims.
