First worked on Syrian Electronic Army hacking >12 years ago.
Remember them?
They hacked dissidents & opposition figures.
Sideline in extortion.
People like Ahmad Al Agha ("Th3 Pr0") & Firas Dardar ("The Shadow" ).
I wonder what they are up to these days? Let's revisit 1/

They taught us a lot about how pro-government groups & cyber militias worked to keep autocrats in power.
It still worked.
Like the time they hacked the AP's #Twitter & briefly wiped out $136bn
#cybersecurity #infosec #hacking
Worth remembering the english-language foreign-based individuals & groups outside #Syria that leveraged the material the SEA stole to do pro- #Assad propaganda.
And they often inflated the feats.
For example they compromised a shortener used on #Obama's Twitter, but claimed they'd hacked the actual account.
The Syrian Electronic Army was an example of how the #Assad regime struggling to manage a very connected conflict in #Syria... enlisted some young people to experiment with information operations, digital repression & espionage.
