Chad, in general, Greenland paddles aren't designed for performance. Most available fall into the 8-9 cm width. Performance comes from technique - I can match Euro paddlers for speed and distance. The wider blade is key only for acceleration - I can surf with the thinner blade just as well.. (1/2)

But a wider blade means I catch more waves than I might otherwise.

Thank you, this is useful information. I have had a chance to use one recently and it felt challenging enough that I had to know more about it. I loved the way it worked with the water and how buoyant it was, but I can't put my finger on why it's so immediately odd and intoxicating to use.
