If you intend to keep them growing longer or start earlier, you should save a couple of Yogurt tins or quart containers. They would be fine over winter in what they are in now. But I get about a half year's healthy start inside, without winter rodents chewing the tasty young trunk.

Even if you don't want to grow them inside, put them in a cool window, as cool as you can get, or move them outside on warmer days in the sun. The goal is to harden the stem so they don't grow upright and fall over under their own weight.
If in a cool window, they will only get half days light

and begin to go dormant. Once the leaves are gone, just sticks in the pot, doesn't matter where you store them, inside our out, they need a rest period anyway, they appear dead, but they will start growing before the snow is gone. I have an unheated room in the basement for tropical tree storage
