Whichever you choose, get one that is NOT self-defrosting. These change the temperature to make that happen, and in long term storage it will cause damage to meats and other items.
Ever find 6 month old popsicles in the back of the freezer? Like that.
I believe chest freezers are significantly more efficient, especially if you open the door/lid a lot. But chest freezers are more difficult to get into and use. It's a tradeoff.
Seems kinda early to make that decision. What if 5 pm rolls around and you’re thinking “man, burgers sound good”, or “a little chuck roast would really hit the spot right now”?
