I recently updated a couple of my books to switch out a word that when I wrote it I thought was blunt but now I think is indefensibly offensive. That said, such late-stage emendations are extremely rare. I don't want to keep updating books anyway; I want to write new ones.

Tonight's sunset.

I know there is fierce competition, but I think I found the worst person in Texas.

I never said I was not going to write another book in the universe, but if I did, it would probably be thousands of years in the future, when the flow stabilized in local space once more. It's current not on my schedule at any point, but it's not out of the realm of possibility.

As it's an ebook, it's possible that Tor has switched out the except from an upcoming book that shows up at the end of the novel. Or there might be a copy error that's being corrected. Spelling/grammar corrections aside, the text of the novel itself has not been altered since its publication.

Q: Who's your fave #Tekkonkinkreet "extra"? Treasure Town (宝町) townsfolk had to fit the design of the city, so animators of crowd shots got these as style ref. Character design by Shojiro Nishimi, colors by Miyuki Itō. #Tekkonkinkreet #AmerBeton #鉄コン筋クリート #TaiyoMatsumoto #松本大洋 #anime #design

Scientists have reconstructed the insane weather of Tylos, a world so hot, and so close to its sun that the clouds are made of vaporised metal, and where it rains liquid sapphires and rubies. https://buff.ly/41a3GnB #ShareGoodNewsToo

I thought I recognized the illustration style

1. Congratulations to Scott Derrickson and @crobertcargill.bsky.social; 2. Gorge 2: The Engorgening: The Animated Musical, you can have that idea for free, no, no, don't thank me, you're welcome

Just reached 290,000 followers here on Bluesky, and, well: Wow. Thank you for being part of my experience here. To celebrate this really cool milestone, I've donated to Black Girls Do STEM, because we need diversity in STEM fields more than ever these days. Onward! bgdstem.com

Anyway, here's Sugar the cat contemplating the impermanence of life and the very nature of existence, as one does

Thread.

Indeed Jesus has advice for such circumstances, involving cheeks and the turning of, but we all know Jesus is a weak and dangerous liberal

Yes! It will be my first time in Harrisburg, incidentally.

As always, Satan could never do anything worse than what humans already do to each other. Satan's just an implementer of what we've already innovated. He gives us what we've thought in our hearts for others.

My mom worked for a while as an operator at an answering service, she had the big board with all the cords and everything. That was when I was in junior high. It's a job that no longer exists, of course.

Updated chorus of "Telephone Line" Ooooh Ooooh left me on read I'm out of my head I'm living in twilight (updating verses is an exercise left to the reader) youtu.be/77R1Wp6Y_5Y

I don't believe in Hell, but if I did I would die happy knowing there was a special seating section for anyone currently railing against "the sin of empathy," and every one of those seats is made with hot rusty barbs

I know my wife's number and my daughter's number and other than that I have no idea of anyone else's. I 100% rely on caller ID and if I don't recognize who is calling, I don't answer (or I punt them into call screening, one of the pluses of having a Pixel phone).

One of the small pleasures of being terminally online is blocking a troll less than five seconds after he leaves an obnoxious comment, he doesn't even get to linger in the afterglow of his own cleverness before he gets sent to the cornfield

All the savings from long distance charges has gone into the cost of buying eggs

HEY NOW This is indeed a problem with using the vernacular of the times, I am now stuck with using "PDA" instead of "phone" or "tablet" in the Old Man's War series. I can't retcon it, so it keeps showing up. It'll be used in the new book too.

DAAAAAAD SHE'S TOUCHING ME AGAIN

In deep space the speed of light solves a lot of instant communication problems if you want it to, otherwise you can always have a proton storm mess with your communications, or have a direct hit on your communications array or whatever

Heard a song from the 80s reference a "long distance call" and it occurred to me that this is a concept that no longer holds any emotional currency whatsoever

No, because I do not wish to be haunted by the angry ghost of Dean Martin

Yup. It fucking hurt like hell the first time I owned up and apologized for a big mistake. So much of my ego was wrapped up in being right, rather than doing the right thing. I still make mistakes (we all do). It's easier for me to own up to them now, and to try to mitigate and learn from them.

My memory of it was that it received a lot of carriage as a "balance" for Doonesbury, and generally paled in the comparison. It does still exist, and a quick check of recent strips does not suggest it has improved with age

As my event is at the Saratoga Music Hall, it will be a perfect time to debut "Palatable!" my six-hour musical exploration of the life and times of Millard Fillmore oh, and maybe I'll read from the upcoming book in the Old Man's War series in fact, let's go with just that second part, okay

It’s deepest February, with cold in the air and snow on the ground, but here is a stack of new books and ARCs to keep you warm. What here is catching your eye?

Definitely not the eyes of a chaos demon

Ok, I'm doing a version of this thread for 🧪 who are new to political conditions where info security is a safety issue: 1. Don't make public lists of people who are engaging in acts of resistance 2. Be weary of calls to advertise acts of subversion 3. Don't live post resistance meetings

Yeah, I would argue with video games, "good" AI isn't a bot/system that is impossible to beat, it's one the scales difficulty based on player ability. I want to barely make it across a map to the safe house that lets me stock up on everything before heading out again.
