Twitch is testing a new stream display ad format that plays a muted video beside the main player.
The viewer can choose to unmute the ad or let it play muted.

The fact ads interrupt my viewing, I don't want anything to do with their product out of spite.
I may not agree with twitch on a lot of things, but I appreciate that they’re trying to make their ads less intrusive.
When people step away from ads (mute and change windows), that split second is still going to break into our psyche, but the act of stopping it is a bit of a stopgap against it.
And that's the nicest variation of what it can do.
Ah, but when it's creeping into your actual space, you've become desensitized to it enough that you don't notice the change.
Kids watching that, and seeing the targeted ads, will continue the cycle of seeing makeup as a cover for their "natural failure." Instead of it being fun, it's "fixing them."
Probably terrible Marketing wise, but it would offer some great data for de Recomendation Systems.

Would these be replacing the scheduled ads or just be an addition to the side ads we have already?
I wish the family-friendly tag helped remove the "mature" content of ads on those streams.
I count it as an improvement
It seems twitch is trying to make ads less intrusive. I just wish they were the rule and not the odd exception…
The only difference I recall is that it mute the stream, not the ad.
We are now 20 minutes into the future.
Vertical banner ads have existed for ages y’all, just use those.
That way, prerolls are disabled for 1 hour, and ads only play during my brb screen.
I even managed to put the preroll ads disabled counter!

Second, for most streamers, most of the point of streaming is money. Anyone who really wants an ad-free stream that badly has likely (unfortunately) already set up on Kick.
I have nothing against PeerTube itself, but please, you are not a savior.
The reality is that advertisements don't just make companies money, they can also make content creators money, which is irreplaceable unless your platform is ran by a casino.

In both Windows and macOS, go into the "About" settings and find the "Licenses" view. Prepare to be awash with all the open source projects you use daily.
I'm trying to promote the growth of these platforms to get people off of predatory platforms thank you very much, and just because you don't want to doesn't mean others wouldn't.
WHO HURT YOU?!???
Was it Lemmy?
I bet it was Lemmy...
please tell me this is a parody account
We all know that shit is staying MUTED 😂
It's a good compromise though, I'll say that much.
