Part of it is to entice schools & indies on the verge of failure, starting out or become bigger with the backing off WWE with these belts and saying they were a WWE champ to promote.

The other is to starve AEW of current or new indy talent, which I feel will not work & kinda have seen it recently.

You seen it with Speedball, BK, Megan & Viva recently. Some want what AEW can offer over WWE. If their goal is to be a WWE superstar, they will go with the ID program then.

I think WWEID is a cool opportunity for talent, but I fear this leads to a future in which wrestling from the indies to the top has a homogenized WWE-esque style. They clearly want to control the talent development pipeline from the independents.

WWE wants their fingerprints on everything and it's getting kind of annoying.

I understand scouting independent talent, but I never saw the need for it to go beyond sending people in power to go watch shows and recruit.

This is beyond unnecessary.

Trying to paint WWE as the company that "nurtures the indies" by dangling a carrot in front of wrestlers who think they're right on the cusp of a contract. Hoping talent kicking their public enthusiasm into high gear will get their fans behind the concept, generate buzz, etc. Free advertising.

The main goal is to prevent talent from going to AEW. They realized signing college athletes & training them to wrestle was becoming a sunk cost, so they've shifted back to scouting actual indy wrestling talent since AEW had cornered that market.

I do think a big part of it is hindering the amount of indie wrestlers who go to AEW. It's undeniable that indie wrestling is a big part of AEW's roots and WWE is trying to tap into that same audience and pool of talent.

This! I can see them gunning for a Maya World, but I feel Athena & Rosa got their hooks in her tight, lol.

This can also end bad as well for WWE if they are not careful & become a money pit as well. What can stop a wrestler from signing up for the money if offers but really have their eye on AEW.

WWE will never admit this publicly, but their shift to signing good looking college athletes & trying to train them into pro wrestlers was an absolute moneypit. Much cheaper to give indy wrestlers a stipend as they're starting their careers.

I think with the college athletes it’s more of a “sure I guess I could wrestle” attitude rather than “wrestling is my choice in life” of indie wrestlers, so they aren’t as invested in wrestling.

Exactly. As someone else pointed out, WWE has had good success with college athletes already interested in pro wrestling, like Bron or Tiffany Stratton. It's the specific NIL program that has failed.

I think they thought they could respond to AEW with something completely different. The batting average isn't good enough to only use that route though. Trying to beat AEW at their own game is more in line with their usual way of doing business.

It was also their ego, as in they thought they could mold any good looking athlete into the next John Cena or Roman Reigns. But it turns out being a top-level volleyball or basketball player has almost no bearing on pro wrestling. Only the gymnasts have really panned out.

I don't know if I believe that's the MAIN goal, but I can see it being one of them. I can imagine Triple H wanting a bigger slice of the cake in terms of people expecting buzzworthy indie talent to sign there rather than AEW being perceived as the largely preferred destination for them.

WON reported when WWE ID was announced that a main aspect of the deals was right of first refusal for WWE to sign them to actual contracts. Talent gatekeeping is the whole point.

"The idea with WWE ID program is that if any wrestler under these deals gets offered a contract by AEW, New Japan, TNA or somebody else, WWE would have a right of first refusal. At that point, WWE can either drop them or sign them to a contract and bring them to Orlando."

I think it can help promote smaller companies and bring more eyes to those venues. You can sell a WWEID championship match at your local spot and I think people would be drawn because it’s a brand name recognized worldwide.

But how does that help an indie promotions' value. For example, if GCW is the place to see Joey Janela, that's part of the appeal of the company. It's not as advantageous if it's here's Joey Janela who's starting his road to WWE where you can eventually watch him.

To the promoter, having that Official WWE logo and stamp of approval is all they need. Hunter-senpai noticed them. And it will get more and more talent interested in coming to that promotion. And boom. Pipeline.

We all know WWE is the biggest game in town but a champions role is to draw people to a company. So, a champion in a smaller promotion that promotes WWE and its pipeline isn't about bringing business to that indie company.

I think it’s beneficial for smaller promotions in a bigger way. I think you can sell more tickets, maybe merch, etc with the WWE logo attached to your promotion. I think if that collaboration can bring more eyes to your talent & company then it’s a big success for the indie companies.

I don't think it helps them as much as you'd like to believe. This reeks of monopoly madness. If you have a WWE ID match on your card for that title, you main event that over the actual promotions title??? How does that help the promotion? It renders their title belt meaningless.

I think promoters can get creative and create storylines with the title and around the title. It’s wrestling, there’s no limits to what you can do. You can highlight the title and your talent at the same time.

Seems to me that they are trying to court as many stars to come to WWE so they wont go to other promotions. Once their partnership w/ TNA comes to an end they will still need ways to do that.
