It is the last 1-year funding settlement, as the government moved to mutli-year agreements, providing additional certainty and security to councils, allowing them to plan ahead.

They will also stop the process of councils 'bidding' for funding - an expensive and bureaucratic process.

It's welcome, but politically it is not enough. Councils need to have enough money to visibly restore services, not just get by, so that the electorate can see and feel the change.

Years of underfunding cannot be overturned over night.

This is the start of repairing that.

With the multi-year funding settlements coming next year and also the proposed major changes to unitary authorities over the whole of England, we should see improvements build up over the coming years.

True enough, and I'm pleased with the start. But local elections are coming to many places soon, and there is a real danger of some councils changing hands and the newly elected councils claiming credit for something they didn't do.

This is great. Before any real progress towards EU should proceed, people need to feel better off, especially those most affected by Tory austerity, ie the target audience of RW populist bs.
