I should add another fact - no UK involvement includes no use of the UK bases in the region, nor on Diego Garcia.

Many speculated over the last couple of days that US plans would be required to use Diego Garcia to attack Iran.

And today some appear to be claiming it as fact that it was used, thereby making the UK involved.

But it's not true. The planes used their home base in Missouri and the US territory of Guam to carry out the attack.

I should add to this that the UK position and statements is in line with that of many other countries in Europe, the EU, Canada, Japan and others - and very different from the position taken by the governments in Israel and the US.

2. The UK has repeatedly called for de-escalation of the situation since the first Israeli attack.

3. The UK has been involved in talks with both sides to try and get that de-escalation, most recently face to face talks with Iran, alongside France, Germany and the EU.

4. The IAEA has said Iran has 60% enriched uranium. While not the 90% needed for nuclear weapons, it's much further along the road to having such weapons than the 3-5% needed for nuclear power. They have a quantity enough for 9 nuclear bombs.

5. The UK's official position is for no one to have nuclear weapons, but not for unilateral disarmament.

6. It is for that reason the UK is against other countries getting nuclear weapons now - it makes the world more dangerous and moves us away from a world without nuclear weapons.

7. Stating that the 'US has taken decisive action to stop Iran' is factually correct but the UK gov has also been clear this is not the approach they would have chosen to take themselves - negotiations being the route they wanted to see - and which they want to see continue now.

Moving to more opinion based things, I personally have given out a sigh of relief.

Iran having nuclear weapons would have been bad (& yes, they were moving towards having them). This sets them back a lot and gives time for more talks.

Even if this is not the way I wanted to see this play out.

My ideal outcome now (which I find unlikely) is that America's assault was 100% effective and justified so that Israel has no need to bomb Iran, the situation de-escalates and the whole thing blows over.

The difference between 60% enrichment and 90% in nuclear terms is light years different. Yes 60% could make a dirty bomb but it's years away from a nuclear bomb. Chemical weapons are far easier to make but we used that lie against Iraq didn't we

Guess what? I’m not a politician or a diplomat and I would hate to be in Starmer’s shoes. Just very glad that it isn’t Boris Johnson or Liz Truss, Nigel Farage or Jeremy Corbyn in charge.

PM Carney was grumpy when he announced alum/steel tariffs on the 🇺🇸 for lack of a trade deal in 30 days, felt more like sanctions..he knew what Trump was going to do.
