I like how the movies don't really go together and don't have any breaks between them, it reminds me of the video where you popped out of toilets and chandeliers to talk about the next topic
Just watched it. Thanks for the tips! What exactly blew your mind? Was it the part where he talks about 300? I thought it was very well written and thoughtfully put together. I also didn’t like the third movie. I thought they were going to discuss immigration or something, but it was disappointing.
You're welcome! Yeah that 300 section was really well put, but what really kinda shocked me was how well the origins of zombies in our culture, which I didn't know of, lends to the first movie's analogy, and then the knowledge they actually knew that because of the Seabrook reference.
I didn't know Zombies could be so intentional, that's crazy to me! The third movie really does lean less on the imigration analogy than I thought and hoped it would, but it was honestly a really fun time too, I think I like it more than the second one just because it's a good time.
I liked it too. I must admit, I didn’t think it was so intentional either, and I didn’t know about that other story about zombies. It’s a really cool trilogy, and as Joel said, it conveys a great message for kids. These are heavy themes, but it’s important to address them from childhood.
This might be a big joel black hole. Rhe big joel singularity. Everything we like about your writing and narration are present and at peak performance. Im 2 hours in so far.
Mr Joel please be reassured that while I haven’t watched the video yet, I do plan to subject the people roadtripping with me to its audio which I think will be a huge hit
I'm furious you didn't review High School Musical 3! Completely undermines your credibility, and I don't think I'll ever be able to trust or enjoy you or anything ever again!
Liking it at the halfway point. But you did misunderstand that one insult where the guy was implying he thought they looked like freaks by saying he mistook them for being in costume.
Got to the part where you showed the scene of the guy pompously listing off facts about a bug and clicked off the video. Love Big Joel, but I think I can live my life without knowing more about Disney Channel movies.
after watching most of it, i feel like i should warmly recommend Rocket Science, the teen indie flick from 2007. a kind of movie the fills in all the blank spots left by these dcoms, like if they took the training wheels of and said, "no, let these kids be kids". a personal fav
I really like the stupid movie trailer thing you did three times, and three times really was the ideal amount for each of them to shine. Also, the part about Zombies genuinely blew my mind, I didn't know that movie was so intentional.
I am not sure I understand the movie order you did, and I totally ranted at you about the Toy Story 2 song (just at my phone, I didn't post anything lol), but I am loving the video. Thank you for making it!
Finished the video and it's truly special. There were a couple movies I had completely expelled from my mind that resurfaced here. Like some movies I _really_ remember loving. Thanks for making it!
This is the first time I’d heard of The Color of Friendship, now I have to watch it. I wonder if I could dig enough to find out what happened to Carrie. Also CRAZY regression between that and The Descendants/Zombies. Going from Black Consciousness to wimpy metaphors that wind up excusing apartheid.
I'm old, but I watched Zombies when I was taking care of a little boy over the summer and he loved those movies. I actually got pretty invested in watching all of them with him. It was super cool to see how much the creators cared about the story in Big Joel's video
Honestly, my favorite part is hearing you slowly lose your mind about how so many dcoms is about being yourself. I've watched every dcom too and that's also what made me slowly lose my mind
I finished the video before bed and I think my favorite part is still when you told Charlie you want to kill her for being an awful person in her own movie. High art

“Now I remember!”
But I'm probably gonna watch the whole thing along the holidays though
