Across only 59 NGO's that documented losses, on top of the 10,000 USAID employees, there are now an estimated 51,946 contractors who were thrown out of work overnight. Change USAID priorities? Minimizes the impact of the USAID funding suspension. My spouse worked - not as an employee, but as a CONTRACTOR - for 25 years. A highly-skilled in disaster relief & the very delicate task of promoting women and civic society under dictatorships. But we just lost one-half of our income overnight.

Worked across the hall from USAID rep in Shah Wali Kot, Afghanistan. At the district center. They were doggedly working incredibly long hours and laser focused on helping the people of that area of Afghanistan. I feel most US citizens never heard of them up until weeks ago.
